America can and will be the greatest nation in this world again if the following (4) principles are observed and followed by each one of us. We cannot expect anything better in our days or the days of our children and grandchildren unless we learn and apply them.
Notice what the people were told when God promised His people a land filled with promise and blessing:
Joshua 1:6- 9
6 Be strong [hard, tough, able to prevail] and of a good courage: [alert, brave determined] for unto this people shall you divide for an inheritance the land, which I swore unto their fathers to give them.
7 Only be strong and very [greatly exceed your natural abilities] courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper whithersoever you go.
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.
9 Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, [don’t tremble for dread, don’t be oppresses or allow others to terrify you] neither be dismayed: [shattered, be dismayed, broken, or abolished] for the LORD your God is with you where ever you go.
How can we be like this?
(v.6) Be strong [hard, tough, able to prevail] and of a good courage: [alert, brave determined]
(v.7) Only be thou strong and very [greatly exceed your natural abilities] courageous
(v.9) Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, [don’t tremble for dread, don’t be oppresses or allow others to terrify you] neither be thou dismayed: [shattered, be dismayed, broken, or abolished] for the LORD your God is with you where ever you go.
Four Principles of a Great Nation
- Obedience to God’s Word
The first principle is found in verse 8 and sets the tone for the life of every true believer.
The casual professor talks about the Bible at times but never searches it out to believe and follow it throughout their lives.
“This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.”
Deuteronomy 5:29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever!
17 Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit; neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that doesn’t bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
20 Therefore by their fruits you shall know them.
21 Not everyone that says to me, “Lord”, “Lord”, will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, “Lord”, “Lord”, have we not prophesied in your name?
And in your name we have cast out devils?
And in your name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.
Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
John 14:21 21 He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him.
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:
24 For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and soon forgets what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looks to the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, will not be a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deeds.
4 Blessed are they that do his commandments that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loves and makes a lie.
- True Direction in the Word of God
Men in general have a tendency to seek the parts of the Word of God that they like best or that seem to give them permission to do as they please rather than taking all of the Word of God for their guide to living. Look with me at verse 7 of our text.
“Only be strong and very [greatly exceed your natural abilities] courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper whithersoever you go.”
31 But as for you, stand here by me, and I will speak to you all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which you shall teach them that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess.
32 You shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God has commanded you: you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
33 You shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.
12 The LORD will open to you his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of your hand: and you shall lend unto many nations, and you shall not borrow.
13 And the LORD will make you the head, and not the tail; and you shall be above only, and you shall not be beneath; if that you hearken to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day, to observe and to do them:
14 And thou shall not go aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
26 Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established.
27 Turn neither to the right hand nor to the left: remove your foot from evil.
- Persevere in the Word of God
To persevere in the Word of God means to keep on with this great truth when we feel like it and when we don’t. It is to commit ourselves to these great truths always. Verse 8 reminds us, “This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein.”
1 Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law he meditates day and night.
Psalm 119:11 Your Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
1 Timothy 4:13-16
13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Neglect not the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15 Meditate upon these things; give yourself wholly to them; that your profiting may appear to all.
16 Take heed to yourself, and to the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this you shall both save yourself, and those that hear you.
- Application of God’s Word in Every Area of Life
(v.6) that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
(v.8) thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
1 My son don’t forget my law; but let your heart keep my commandments:
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to you.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake you: bind them about your neck; write them upon the table of your heart:
4 So shall thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.
1 Kings 2:3 And keep the charge of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, and His commandments, and His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do, and where ever you turn yourself:
3 John 1-4 The elder to the well beloved Gaius, who I love in the truth.
2 Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, and even your soul will prosper.
3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, even as you walk in the truth.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
2 Honor your father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise 😉
3 That it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.
Deuteronomy 12:28 Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee , and with thy children after thee forever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.
Our Nation has changed because we have changed.
Our nation will return to greatness when we return!!!
It must begin with me!!
